More Info
Ed Johnston was born on November 25, 1990 to Curt and Debbie Johnston and was welcomed home by two older siblings with a younger sibling added a few years later. In this family of 6, Ed Johnston soon started to outshine the others in football. He used those early proclivities to a high school career that ended very well.
At Armijo High School in Fairfield, California Ed Johnston made a name for himself during his junior and senior seasons. In 11th grade Ed Johnston totaled 70 tackles (a team high) as well as 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. As a senior, he again led the team with 95 tackles, 5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Awards soon followed. He earned Monticello Empire League Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year honors, All-City and All-Region Offensive Lineman of the Year,first-team All-MEL, All-City and All-Region, and was a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. He spent the springs on the field, too, but in a different way, throwing shot put and discus in track and field.
In 2009 he redshirted his freshman year on the Cal Bears team.
